State Police arrest man accused of solicitation of a minor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A $500,000 bond was set for a Monongalia County man accused of soliciting a minor.

West Virginia State Police arrested Jonathan P. Carroll, 40 of Dorsey Avenue, on Tuesday. He was charged with soliciting a minor via computer and display of obscene material to a minor.

Investigators had been aware of a dated YouTube video where Carroll allegedly described inappropriate intentions toward a minor.

In recent weeks, the video, which police said did not depict a crime, surfaced through social media again drawing community concern.

Tuesday’s arrest was the culmination of an ongoing investigation.

Carroll was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court before Sandy Holepit.
