Student Success Summit underway in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – More than 400 educators convene in Morgantown this week to explore ways to improve lifelong learning systems. The Student Success Summit offers 50 professional development sessions conducted by educators across the state.

The theme of the program this year is “The future is now: Full Steam ahead,” a main focus will be on innovative techniques educators can use to encourage students studying science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Superintendent of the West Virginia Department of Education Dr. Steve Paine said, “It’s very important for us to understand what Higher Education needs in our graduates and how that translates to successfull employment.”

On the importance of meetings like these Dr. Sarah Armstrong Tucker, Interim Chancellor of the Commission and Chancellor of the West Virginia Community and Technical College System said, “Our instructors, our faculty and our teachers have to be talking to each other to make sure we’re doing what we need to do for the betterment of our students.”

The Student Success Summit was held in Charleston for the first two years, but out grew the facilities and has been held in Morgantown for the last seven years.
