Support grows for Morgantown interim city manager

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Support continues to grow for Interim City Manager Glen Kelly to get the job on a permanent basis. Two of the Monongalia County Commissioners expressed their support for Kelly at the end of Wednesday’s commission meeting.

“I will say, and this is me personally speaking. I know I’m a commissioner, but I would personally like to express my support for the hiring of Glen Kelly as the Morgantown city manager,” Commissioner Ed Hawkins said.

Kelly has been leading the city administration since the departure of former city manager Jeff Mikorski in August. Kelly is one of 49 candidates who have applied for the job.

Commission President Eldon Callen echoed Hawkins support, stating that he has been very vocal in his support of Kelly.

“I’ve already made my feeling on that known to council privately as well as to other groups,” Callen said, adding “Glen Kelly is key to keeping the runway extension project on line.”

Commissioner Tom Bloom elected to remain neutral on the issue.

Earlier this year, Main Street Morgantown went before city council to endorse Kelly for the job.

The consulting firm GovHR USA is currently sifting through resumes and present city council with a list of candidates to interview by Dec. 1.
