Suspects involved in multiple county pursuit, rolling shootout with police indicted

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – Three suspects in a wild pursuit and shootout with police in two counties have been indicted on multipe counts by a grand jury in Harrison County.

In May 2022, police initiated a pursuit when Wilber Chicas, 26, Jeroenne Carballo, 20, both of Greenville, South Carolina, and Luis Lebron, 25, fled the Clarksburg Walmart after being suspected of shoplifting.

The suspects fled in a van on Emily Drive to Route 50 before opening the rear doors and firing on police as they pursued. When the van turned onto Route 131, the suspects began to throw objects from the back of the van to impede the police.

The suspects continued firing as the van turned onto I-79 North into Marion County, where the suspects exited in White Hall and set the van on fire.

Lebron was shot and captured by police. Chicas and Carballo were captured after an hours-long manhunt in the Fairmont area.

All three suspects face 13 counts of endangerment involving a firearm, three counts of attempted murder, one count of fleeing with reckless indifference, and one count of destruction of property.

Wilber Chicas faces an additional charge of shoplifting.
