Taylor County escapee back in custody after being tased

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A sexual assault suspect who took off from Taylor County police is back in custody and could face additional felony charges.

According to a release from the U.S. Marshals Service, Derek Adam Swiger 24, of Grafton was arrested Wednesday around 1:45 p.m. after running during an arrest about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

He took off from Grafton Police while being handcuffed on sexual assault charges. Swiger is accused of having sex with a minor.

U.S. Marshals joined the Grafton Police Department and Taylor County Sheriff’s Department in the search for Swiger Wednesday morning.

Swiger was seen leaving a residence where authorities believed he was hiding out. When they attempted to arrest him in a traffic stop, Swiger allegedly tried to run from police a second time and was subdued with a taser.

Swiger could also face charges of escape and fleeing from an officer.
