Teenage shooting victim dies from injuries

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, a teenager shot early Monday morning died from his injuries.

Damon Sochko, reportedly a Morgantown High School sophomore, was struck in the head and spent three days in critical condition at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Christopher Smith, 21 of Morgantown, at the scene of the shooting on Church Hill Drive without incident Monday morning.

Smith was initially charged with wanton endangerment accused of recklessly manipulating a handgun.

Chief Deputy Perry Palmer indicated additional information in the investigation will be released Thursday afternoon.
