Tuition increase approved at Fairmont State University

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Fairmont State University Board of Governors has approved a three percent tuition increase for the 2023-24 school year.

The increase for in-state students will total $123 per semester, and the increase for out-of-state learners will be $268. Graduate-level tuition is expected to increase by $142 per semester for in-state students and $304 per semester for those from out-of-state. Tuition for undergraduate virtual students will increase by $106, and tuition for graduate students on virtual programs will increase by $120.

Citing rising utility costs, legal fees, and the presidential search being conducted by New York-based Buffkin/Baker, revenue is off by $800,000 from this time last year.

The Board also approved the academic program review recommendations for Bachelor of Science in Biology, Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Science in Forensics. In addition, the Board approved a degree name change from M.Ed. Digital Media, New Literacies, and Learning to M.Ed. Instructional Design and Technology and the creation of a new master’s degree in Cyber Security and Risk Management. Previously, the new degree was only available as a concentration within the MBA program.

The board announced a special meeting for May 10 at 1 p.m. to make their recommendation for president public.

Four finalists, Rocco Fucillo, Bill Phillips, Michael Davis, and Rosemary Thomas, were on campus April 17–19 to meet with campus and community partners and the BOG.
