Two face neglect charges in Belington after children found playing in the road

BELINGTON, W.Va. –  West Virginia State Police arrested two in Belington after finding unattended children playing in the roadway.

On Thursday, troopers from the Barbour County Detachment took about 10 minutes to respond to Industrial Park Avenue and Marion Street when they found the two children still playing in the road. The children were estimated to be 4 or 5 years  old, and troopers could not get an answer from them when they asked where they lived and what their parent’s names were.

Troopers then put the children in the cruiser for their safety.

About five minutes later, troopers made contact with Breanna Gill, 22, of Belington; she told police the two children under her care were missing. She told troopers that she and William Miller, 34, also of Belington, were watching the children play in the yard when they went inside to get a drink and discovered they were gone when they returned.

Reports indicate the children were found about a quarter mile away from the home where they had last been seen.

Gill and Miller face one charge of child neglect that creates the risk of injury.

Both are being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
