Two frat members could have hazing charges dropped; must complete probation following student’s death

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Hazing charges could be dropped against two men who were part of a fraternity event where another student was hospitalized and later died.

Jordan Hankins and Richard Schwartz have been ordered to two years of unsupervised probation. If they complete the program without incident, the charges will be dismissed.

Nolan Burch was a pledge at a Kappa Sigma ceremony where investigators say he drank too much and died shortly after the party of acute alcohol intoxication.

Hankins was accused of being the grand master of the event. Schwartz was accused of giving the 18 year old freshman booze.

Defense attorneys and prosecutors agreed to the 2 year diversion program.
