Two people charged after pursuit could have answers to multiple ongoing investigations

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two people now in custody could help solve a series of other investigations, Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston said Tuesday.

Carissa Dawn Chissler, 34, of Maidsville, and Allen Christopher Poling, 40, of Morgantown, are both facing a slew of charges connected to a shoplifting turned pursuit.

Police responded to the shoplifting call mid-afternoon Saturday and attempted to stop a vehicle with Chissler and Poling in it. The two allegedly led police on a chase onto Grafton Road before abandoning their vehicle and continuing to try to escape on foot. Police apprehended them near FCI Morgantown.

Police executed a search warrant on their vehicle and discovered a number of stolen items and other evidentiary items related to other ongoing cases. Police said the vehicle the suspects fled in was reported stolen in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Both suspects have been identified as suspects involved in several other larceny and shoplifting investigations.

Chissler has been charged with obstructing, receiving a stolen vehicle, two counts of fleeing, and shoplifting. Poling faces the same charges, but is additionally wanted as a fugitive. Poling is awaiting extradition to Greene County, Pennsylvania on unrelated charges to this incident.

Additional charges are pending.
