Utility projects approved; MUB rates will increase

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown Council agrees to move forward with Morgantown Utility Board expansion plans that will result in rate hikes for customers.

An estimated $31 million Cobun Creek reservoir expansion would give MUB a back up of 370 million gallons of water to supply customers for more than a month in the event of contamination of the main water supply.

Some residents near the reservoir and at least one councilman question a cheaper alternative in a different location. But, there’s not enough dissent on council to stop that part of the measure.

Council unanimously agrees with MUB’s wastewater treatment facility upgrades in Star City. That project has been estimated at $90 million.

Average customers are should expect their bills to increase by roughly $21.
