Victim describes Wednesday I-79 road rage incident

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — State police have released more information in connection with a road rage incident on Interstate 79 near Morgantown.

Two counts of wanton endangerment have been filed against Robert Schweizer, 32, of Morgantown.

According to state troopers, at just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, the victim, who asked not to be identified was driving back to Fairmont from Erie, Pennsylvania, on I-79 southbound when Schweizer entered the roadway at the Westover exit. According to the victim, Schweizer cut off several motorists and needlessly braked hard as people reacted to his aggressive driving while merging onto the interstate.

When the victim passed the Schweizer on the right, he said Schweizer could be seen waving a gun at him as he accelerated to catch the victim. When Schwiezer got alongside the victim, he discharged a pistol that hit the ground, ricocheted into the bottom of the vehicle, and then attempted to drive away.

The victim said he continued south and kept Schweizer’s vehicle in view while calling police.

The first police officer arrived on the scene within minutes followed by seven others who quickly helped get the suspect into custody just south of the Goshen Road exit, according to the victim.

The victim and a passenger were not injured in the incident.
