THE SERIES
Martinsburg has had Morgantown’s number since 2004. The Bulldogs have won 10 consecutive games against the Mohigans, including a 54-0 shutout in last year’s semifinals. Morgantown’s last win in the series came in the 2004 State Championship Game, capping off Morgantown’s perfect season.

MOHIGAN NOTES
Morgantown’s defense has been stout through the first four games of the year, limiting Parkersburg South to 70 yards rushing and Brooke to a season low 44 yards rushing. The defense also, kept the Mohigans in the game against Steubenville before finally wearing down in the second half. However, Morgantown has not face a team with the overall speed Martinsburg brings to the field.

Morgantown’s best defense might be its offense and what Morgantown’s offense will look like is a bit of an unknown. Going into last week, it appeared Morgantown finally found an offensive identity, switching to the single-wing offense. Then on Friday, junior quarterback Logan Holgorsen rejoined the football team. Now, the coaching staff has schemed to include Holgorsen in the offense but not get away from the running attack.

We’ll find out Friday night what that looks like.

MARTINSBURG NOTES
The Bulldogs returned nearly everyone from last year’s championship team and if it is possible, are better than last year. Quarterback Tyson Baegent is among the frontrunners for the Kennedy Award. Baegent threw for a season-high 228 yards and three touchdowns last week against Spring Mills.

Martinsburg also has several options when it wants to run the ball. Dewayne Grantham and Mikey Jackson each have 100-yard rushing game this season. Martinsburg is averaging 53 points per game.

Even scarier is the Bulldog defense. The defense is only allowing slightly better than a touchdown per game and just 56 yards rushing per game.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Everyone will want to see how quarterback Logan Holgorsen is incorporated into the offense this week. Morgantown has lacked a passing attack through the first four games and that has allowed defenses to load the box in an effort to stop the run.

Watch out for Martinsburg defensive back Teddy Marshall. He leads the defense with four interceptions and has a pair of interception returns for touchdowns, including a 102-yard return for a score against Liberty Christian Academy.
