Weston woman jailed after ramming cruiser during pursuit

JANE LEW, W.Va. – Police in Taylor County said a Weston woman who was driving erratically is behind bars after a high-speed pursuit in which she rammed a cruiser.

Police allege the attempt to stop Kristy Vankirk, 43, began when she was observed driving left of center. When police attempted to stop her, she fled at speeds of up to 85 miles per hour in a posted 45-mile-per-hour zone.

When she pulled in front of Vankirk, she rammed the cruiser and continued to flee.

Deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department deployed stop sticks near the Jane Lew Fire Department and stopped the chase.

Vankirk has been charged with fleeing with reckless indifference and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
