Westover man charged after allegedly dragging dog

WESTOVER, W.Va. – A Westover man is facing animal cruelty charges after abusing his dog in public.

Saturday, Westover police responded to a report of Raymond Ward, 48, dragging a dog in the area of Bound Circle. A female witness told police she tried to stop Ward, but he hit her, causing an injury to her arm.

When police made contact with Ward, they found the dog at the rear of the residence with several injuries. Police said the dog had several lacerations and abrasions on the knees, paws, groin, stomach, and a laceration to the throat.

Ward is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
