MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Mountaineer fans will find they have a home base in Boston, just across the street from TD Garden, ahead of Friday’s Sweet 16 tip-off against top-seeded Villanova.

“Fans and alumni alike can meet at The Greatest Bar,” said Allyson Cannon with the WVU Alumni Association. “That really will be the home away from home for Mountaineers in Boston all weekend long.”

The WVU Alumni Association is hoping for a big turnout Friday when they invite Mountaineer fans and alumni to The Greatest Bar, a four-level venue just across from TD Graden, for pre-game festivities from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“The WVU Alumni Association represents a large family of Mountaineers,” Cannon said. “Whether you attended WVU or whether WVU was just part of your life at some point or another, it’s important to be part of that Mountaineer Nation. We travel so well together as our fan base.”

Tip-off is set for 7:27 p.m Friday for 5-seed WVU, who topped 12-seed Murray State 85-68 and 13-seed Marshall 94-71 last weekend in California.

“I think our fan base is one of the most welcoming out there,” Cannon said. “To the WVU Alumni Association, our fans really make up who we are. Its the love in the room, its the cameraderie that we build and enjoy together. Really, for us, it’s just a sense of pride no matter what city we visit.”

If WVU defeats Villanova, the Alumni Association will host an additional event Sunday in Boston three hours before tip-off.

“The prediction is that we’ll win, right?” she said. “Hopefully, we’ll be carrying on to the Elite Eight on Sunday and then all is well. If we make it to the Final Four, we’ll have packages and events announced following Sunday’s game.”

Closer to home, Student Life will host a watch party on campus in the Mountainlair Friday evening for students on campus in the general student union area.
