WVU notifies some employees about recent data breach

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University officials are notifying a group of current and former employees about a data breach that happened almost seven years ago.

The university found a file published online in 2016 by a third party that included social security numbers. The page and information have since been removed.

WVU employees hired after August 2013 are not included in the breach.

Employees included in the breach are being notified by email and are being given one year of identity protection.

Concerned WVU employees should contact the ITS Service Desk at [email protected] before February 2, 2024.
