WVU ranked second following win over OU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — For the first time in nearly 60 years, the WVU Men’s Basketball team is ranked second in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll.

WVU jumped up from the No. 6 spot following the team’s fourteenth straight win, an 89-76 victory over No. 7 Oklahoma Saturday night in Morgantown.

West Virginia received 12 No. 1 votes and 1,599 total poll points, trailing Villanova by just 52 points. Villanova jumped from No. 3 in the poll following losses last week by four of the nation’s teams previously ranked in the poll’s Top 5.

It’s West Virginia’s highest ranking since Dec. 1959.

This is the highest ranking for a Bob Huggins-coached team since 2000, when he led the Cincinnati Bearcats to a No. 1 ranking heading into the Conference USA tournament.
