WVU’s Day of Giving continues $1 billion campaign

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A one-day fundraiser that aims to expand the opportunities achieved at West Virginia University wrapped at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.

The WVU Foundation’s first annual Day of Giving is a 24 hour online fundraiser that allows for a simple way to donate to the University. Karen Coombs of the WVU School of Dentistry expects the 24 hour fundraiser to be very productive.

“It has been a really exciting opportunity to raise awareness of the programs and the needs [at WVU], not only in the School of Dentistry, but the University overall,” Coombs said Wednesday on Morgantown AM.

The Day of Giving is a part of the Foundation’s “State of Minds” Campaign that continues until the end of December. The campaign is projected to bring in over $1 billion to help provide scholarships and other opportunities within WVU.

“All of the departments have their own personal needs,” Coombs said. “It’s not cheap to train our dental students to provide excellence in oral healthcare, you know, the excellence that our West Virginians deserve.”

The Day of Giving is aimed toward bringing in alumni and supporters all over the world that are looking to donate through a direct and easy online portal rather than mailing a check or going to a fundraiser. Alumnis from the School of Dentistry participated in the fundraiser, which had Coombs excited.

“We’re very honored that they are stepping up to match that,” she said. “So there’s an opportunity for folks to if they give $100 it will really turn into $200, so we’re very excited about that opportunity.”

The matching of the dollar for dollar continued throughout the day of giving. The “State of Minds” campaign will continue until the end of December.
