MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Monongalia County results are in, and Republican nominee Geno Chiarelli wins the W.Va House of Delegates 78th district race against Jeffery Budkey. Chiarelli received a 3,049 votes.

“It feels very good. I’ve put in a lot of work and I’ve worked with a lot of people and I’ve prayed a whole lot over the last year, so it feels really, really good for it to end this way,” Chiarelli said.

Chiarelli says that looking at historical precinct data was particularly helpful during his campaign, as well as running in the May primary.

“We knew that the race was going to be decided in the primary,” Chiarelli said. “I think that us having a primary was a huge advantage.”

This is Chiarelli’s first run for office.
