Ohio Man Sentenced to Two Years for Identity Theft in Gilmer County

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — An Ohio man will serve up to two years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated identity theft in Gilmer County.

Tyree Skipper, 44, of Euclid, Ohio, was sentenced Tuesday for obtaining identifying information of individuals in Gilmer County. He used the information to file fraudulent tax returns in Ohio, South Carolina, and Hawaii from December 2012 to May 2013.

He pleaded guilty to the two felony charges in February 2017.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Cogar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

The Internal Revenue Service and the Special Investigative Services Unit of the Bureau of Prisons investigated.

U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided.
