13-year-old boy dies in Preston County fire

ALBRIGHT, W.Va. – The West Virginia Fire Marshall’s office has identified the person killed in a Preston County fire on Thursday as a 13-year-old boy.

Reports indicate members of the Albright Volunteer Fire Department responded at 6 a.m. and found the boy’s body near a second floor window during rescue and fire suppression operations.

Family members in the home told investigators fire blocked their escape from the first floor, so they went to the second floor to escape from windows.

One family member was burned and suffered a broken back, another suffered burns. Both are being treated at the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh. Two others escaped unharmed.

Investigators say the fire was caused by an overloaded electrical outlet. The home did not have any smoke detectors.
