District 4 to get $2.6 million in paving over 45 days

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Favorable interest rates and bonding ability will put the DOH in the position to complete millions of dollars in extra road work this year.

In District 4 that includes Mon, Preston Doddridge, Harrison and Marion counties, governor Justice announced a sizable portion of work to be done over the next 45-days.

“DOH District 4, we are right now going to announce $2.6 million in paving projects that will be completed in 45-days,”Justice said.

DOH deputy secretary Jimmy Wriston said statewide West Virginians will see millions of dollars in work completed, following the approval of a $20 purchase order approval for paving.

“Over the next few months you’re going to see probably more than $100 million, maybe as much as $130 million of additional work, above and beyond the normal program”Wriston said,”This $20 million is just the beginning.”

Wriston also said some area in District 4 have had road milled, graded and rolled to prepare for future maintenance projects.

“We’ve grinded those up to take care of the base of those roadways,”Wriston said,”When we get those bases taken care of, a nice profile and roll that in good, next year you might see another tar and chip surface or pavement put back on there.”

Governor Justice cautioned motorists to be mindful of the men and women that work on roadways and ditches to keep them in good shape.

“They’re four feet away from you, and if it just so happens they would step the wrong way or you would nod off,”Justice said,”The we’ve got a casualty on our hands of a hero that’s out there working.”
