Harrison County scam under investigation

HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va. – Detectives from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department are fielding several calls about a jury duty scam.

Residents tell police callers tell them they with the Warrants Processing and Court Services Division and they have missed jury duty. The caller tells residents they face arrest if they do not pay a fine.

The callers have used the names deputy Hamlin and Lt. Gobel. Sheriff Robert Matheny says there is noone by that name on the police force.

Investigators have recovered the telephone number 304-715-3242. The number rings to a voicemail system that says it is the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and asks you to hold.

Sheriff Matheny warns residents this is scam, his officers will not call and ask for the paymeny of fines. He also says to never give personal information out over the phone.
