Stolen car leads Harrison County deputies to significant meth seizure

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – Deputies in Harrison County say an investigation into a stolen car resulted in one arrest and confiscation of “a large amount of methamphetamine.”

Deputies responded Wednesday after a call from the Mount Clare Fire Department saying the stolen car was in front of their location.

Deputies responded, verified the car was reported stolen, observed a male sleeping in the front seat and a female picking up trash near the front of the vehicle.

The female, identified as Courtney Morrison, 30, told deputies her grandmother gave her permission to use the car and drove it to the location near the firehouse.

A search was conducted after a canine officer alerted to the presence of narcotics. Deputies found a pink backpack in the front that contained methamphetamine and digital scales. Deputies also recovered a 9mm handgun from the center console next to the sleeping male.

Morrison told investigators the backpack belonged to her sister and she believed her mother placed it there to get her in trouble.

The male admitted the weapon was his, even though he had a 2019 felony conviction that prohibits him from possessing a firearm.

Morrison was taken to the North Central Regional Jail and charged with possession with intent to deliver.
