Texas man accused of assaulting Bridgeport policeman

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Police in Bridgeport say Jared Rayon of Beaumont, Texas attacked a patrol officer over the weekend, seriously injuring him.

Police were called to the Microtel because of a disturbance. When police arrives they saw Rayon pacing in the lobby around other guests. After Rayon showed his ID to police he was asked to go outside away from the guests.

While walking outside Rayon started to run back for his bag in the lobby. When the officer grabbed his wrist, Rayon punched him in the nose and the officer fell to the ground. Rayon jumped on the officer and hit him multiple times before others were able to get Rayon off the officer.

Rayon has been charged with unlawful assault and was taken to the North Central Regional Jail. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
